Chapter 96 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Historical Organisation Studies, 2026, pp 348-352 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Latin American management history reflects a unique trajectory shaped by economic volatility, political instability, family business dominance and institutional constraints. While traditional management frameworks emphasise efficiency, standardisation and hierarchical control, Latin American firms have developed alternative approaches that prioritise adaptability, external legitimacy and stakeholder management. While the region's management practices continue to evolve, with increasing engagement in international markets and resulting professional education, it remains an imperative to understand the historical foundations of management within Latin America.
