Introduction: the thematic area, research problem, and the scope of the monograph
Arkadiusz Michał Kowalski ()
A chapter in Clusters and Cluster Policy Models, 2025, pp 1-10 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This introductory chapter presents the thematic area of industrial clusters, highlighting the research problem arising from global variations in cluster development and policy. It explores the evolving nature of clusters across different national contexts, influenced by diverse economic and institutional frameworks. Arising research questions are introduced, and the key objective of the monograph is defined: to identify and develop the taxonomy of the cluster development and policy models that take place in different countries characterised by various levels of economic development and social, economic, and institutional systems. Additionally, the monograph's methodological approach is outlined, particularly its combination of literature reviews, case studies, and a novel taxonomy of cluster development. This taxonomy categorises clusters and policies into globally applicable models, enabling comparative analysis across developed and emerging economies.
