The unfulfilled promise of feminist research in entrepreneurship studies

Chiara Leggerini

Chapter 6 in Feminist Perspectives in Business Studies, 2025, pp 148-170 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This research delves into the intersection of feminism and entrepreneurship. I conducted a systematic review across the top 50 journals in business management, accounting, strategy, and management. The top 50 journals serve as a storehouse for accepted theories, accepted practices, and relevant empirical situations. My review identified a scarcity of feminist and entrepreneurship studies, noting a significant gap in the literature despite the societal impact of feminism. This void perpetuates a male-centric perspective and inhibits understanding of feminist approaches. I propose that this dearth is due to epistemic oppression, reflecting a resistance to challenging conventional knowledge systems. By raising awareness and advocating for the recognition of feminist scholarship, I aim to expand understanding and the utilization of feminist perspectives in entrepreneurial research. Recognition and redress of this oppression are essential for fully harnessing feminism's potential in comprehending strategic dynamics and entrepreneurial processes.
