Abstract:
The chapter explores an innovative approach to teaching philosophy to economics students by integrating philosophical debates directly into the study of economic theories and practices. It demonstrates how philosophy serves as an essential tool for understanding and critically examining foundational assumptions in economics, particularly concerning the conceptualization of possibilities, complexity, the philosophy of probability and unawareness, and the philosophy of modeling. Central to the proposed approach is the connection of abstract philosophical concepts to real-world examples from markets, central banks, and policymaking. The chapter advocates embedding philosophical inquiry into economics education to provide students with the analytical tools necessary to adopt a nuanced and critical perspective toward economic theories, navigate the complexities of economic decision-making, and contribute thoughtfully to their future professions.
