Dagmar Gesmann-Nuissl

Chapter 23 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and DLT, 2026, pp 118-122 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Intellectual Property (IP) is a legal concept that governs the protection of the results of intellectual creations. It encompasses a variety of rights that enable the authors of inventions, literary and artistic works, as well as trademarks and designs, to profit commercially from their work and prevent unauthorised use by third parties. Intellectual property plays a central role in the modern knowledge and creative economy and is an important engine for innovation and cultural expression.
