Chapter 59 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain and DLT, 2026, pp 287-291 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Wallets are the containers of keys to administer crypto assets. As these wallets are a kind of browser for users to enter blockchain and Web3 systems, they are considered essential to create and capture the value generated by these systems. Considerable attention is being placed on wallets by major providers such as Metamask. Attention is placed on security, as well as on ease of use for the end user. With increasing usability from connectivity, autonomy, and offline capability, wallets may develop into what has been termed the user's universal access device for any digital asset.
