Chapter 12 in Cases in Organization Development and Change, 2026, pp 110-118 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Major Focus of the Case: This case presents an innovative program that was designed to accomplish a “high performance culture” with a “whole enterprise mindset” so leaders in the company had a systems view of the company where they understood the whole company and how it worked and worked together for the success of the company. The approach designed by the CEO and consultants shows how leadership development can be combined with organization development to take training and development from an event that results in minimal change to an intervention that results in organization-wide change. You will learn in the case about a creative approach that involved many interesting features, such as a craftsman strategy for training that took the leaders from apprentice training to journeymen training to master-craft training, with each stage including actual projects that resulted in individual, group, and organization changes. The program also included mentoring and training from top-level leaders and activities that resulted in a whole enterprise mindset. The results were impressive!
