Abstract:
This research delves into the intricacies involved in digital green financing in India, focusing on public opinion in terms of awareness, perceived effectiveness and perceived impact of these instruments on sustainability and regulatory frameworks, and analysing renewable energy trends prevailing in India. Public opinion was assessed through a questionnaire with 206 respondents; theoretical secondary data about regulatory frameworks and quantitative secondary data relating to renewable energy trends from 2014–2023 were collected from the government, SEBI and IRENA websites. While public opinion and renewable energy trends were quantitatively analysed through multivariate regression analysis (upon standardisation of the primary data), regulatory frameworks were qualitatively analysed through theoretical analysis. This research advocates the digitisation of green financing to leverage technology to achieve greater transparency and accessibility, while effectively mitigating the risks of data privacy involved. It is concluded that digital green finance has the potential to catalyse the financing of green projects such as the development of renewable energy infrastructure, water conservation projects, sustainable agriculture projects and many more, and can hence be utilised effectively and efficiently in financing India's transition to a green, sustainable economy.
