Farheen Naz, Ashutosh Samadhiya, Anil Kumar, Samuel O. Idowu and Pankaj Dutta

Chapter 8 in Handbook on Artificial Intelligence and the Circular Economy, 2026, pp 107-119 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter focuses on identifying the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in remanufacturing under the circular economy system. The current study focuses on the growth and development of the research in the selected field, identifying emerging thematic clusters and proposing future research directions. For this, a total of 765 articles were retrieved from the SCOPUS database which focuses on artificial intelligence, remanufacturing, and the circular economy. The bibliometric and cluster analysis was conducted on the selected relevant articles. The co-word cluster analysis identified three major thematic clusters and were discussed in detail, followed by future research propositions. The results provided a thorough picture of the current state of the field, emphasizing important topic areas and their implications for further research. This research utilizes AI technology to enhance the understanding of sustainable practices in remanufacturing, promoting advancement towards a more circular and resilient industrial environment.
