Abstract: This concluding chapter synthesises the book's insights to show how gentrification reshapes urban schooling and reproduces educational inequalities. Rather than generating straightforward benefits, the arrival of middle-class families interacts with school choice policies, institutional frameworks, and local school market structures in ways that often reinforce privilege and exclusion. Schools and policymakers mediate these effects, while families respond in strategic, context-dependent ways that shape enrolment, peer composition, and institutional practices. By examining these dynamics across multiple European cities, the chapter highlights the contingent, multi-scalar nature of gentrification's educational consequences and the complex interaction between urban transformation and institutional design. The chapter also identifies key avenues for future research: clarifying causal mechanisms, exploring the experiences of displaced communities, and tracing long-term and non-linear effects. Overall, the book establishes a roadmap for scholars and policymakers to investigate the dynamic, structural, and agentic processes that shape educational outcomes in gentrifying cities.
