Abstract:
The Fraud Advisory Panel was established in 1998 by Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to tackle economic crime, particularly against the business sector and small-medium enterprises. Comprising a board of 15 trustees, the Panel addresses the most prevalent fraud threats by engaging with subject matter experts and active collaboration with its membership, both corporate and individual. Campaigns supporting sectors such as charities, small–medium enterprises, and universities sit at the heart of the modern Panel, but these have all been formed as a result of over 25 years tackling fraud through the enhancement of awareness and promoting prevention through collaboration and cross-sector engagement. Addressing societal issues through publications and its active lobbying of government, most notably fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (UK), the Panel sits in a position as a trusted voice in the counter-fraud profession.
