Abstract:
This chapter introduces this book, Research Companion to Advances in the Construction Industry in the Global South. It presents the aim and objectives of the book and sets out its rationale. It discusses the approach that was taken to curate the book. It defines some key terms in the field, especially those on which there is a lack of agreement, such as the expression, “Global South”; and the meaning of an “advance” regarding construction. This is followed by a consideration of the synopses of the chapters. The main components of the chapter synopses are: the objectives, method, the field study or analysis of the literature, the main findings and key points of the research agenda. It is concluded that the purpose of the editor in putting it together is met. It is an authoritative reference text on the advances in construction in the Global South. It makes a significant addition to the body of knowledge on the subject.
