Abstract: This chapter discusses gender equality in the construction industry in developing countries. It highlights the lack of research in Construction Management and Economics that considers the unique characteristics and socio-economic environments of these countries. Gender inequality in construction is under-researched, despite the international community recognising gender equality as a fundamental human right and the growing need for construction workers. The chapter identifies areas where gender inequality is most evident, addresses barriers to women's participation, and suggests effective interventions for change. Based on a literature review and analysis of reports from international organisations, it synthesises key issues, trends, and strategies for realising gender equality. The chapter examines how institutional structures and policies in developing countries either perpetuate or mitigate gender inequality in the construction industry. It contributes to existing knowledge and provides recommendations for organisations and policymakers to implement effective interventions, legislation, and policies to create a stronger, more resilient industry.
