Reviving halal tourism post-pandemic: a logistics systems retrospective of a small nation

Abstract: Despite the emerging plethora of literature post-COVID-19, little is known about how Brunei Darussalam survived the pandemic. Thus, this chapter investigates the revival of halal tourism in Brunei Darussalam post-pandemic through the lens of the logistics system. Utilizing an inductive approach and case studies of crucial logistics components of the logistics infrastructure, institutional framework, logistics service providers, and users, it identifies strategies vital to the country's halal tourism recovery. The findings highlight four strategies in rejuvenating the sector: strict safety protocols, supportive policies, local tourism empowerment, and rebuilding customer confidence. These strategies enhance operational efficiency, ensure travellers’ health and safety, stimulate local tourism products and services, and restore tourist trust. The chapter underscores the potential impacts on policymakers, tourism operators, and tourists, suggesting that strategic measures could significantly benefit Brunei's halal tourism industry.
