Management of halal health services based on medical tourism

Ririn Tri Ratnasari

Chapter 8 in A Research Agenda for Halal Tourism, 2026, pp 130-143 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter aims to explore the role of management in the development of the medical tourism industry and halal health services. With a focus on Sharia principles governing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of patients, this chapter analyzes the challenges faced in aligning health services with the religious needs of Muslim patients. In addition, it evaluates the impact of implementing Sharia principles on medical tourists’ experiences and customer loyalty, as well as identifying market potential and opportunities that exist in the halal-based medical tourism industry. It is hoped that the results will provide valuable insight for stakeholders in optimizing high-quality health services that are in accordance with religious beliefs, as well as encouraging the sustainable growth of the health tourism industry.
