Abstract: China's growth has been remarkable. We expand on the traditional dualism when explaining China's structural transformation over the four-decade reform since the 1980s. This transformation involves resource reallocation to boost output and enhance living standards, in line with the technology life cycle (TLC), amidst ongoing changes in both the international and domestic political environments. We also provide empirical evidence demonstrating that such reallocation has driven productivity growth at both national and provincial levels.
