Abstract: This chapter examines how lifecycle dynamics shape supply chain management (SCM) and ecosystem governance in emerging industries. It distinguishes between technological, product, and industry lifecycles, and explores how stages such as incubation, growth, maturity, and decline influence SCM priorities. In response to the increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) of today's business environment, we highlight the limitations of traditional SCM and the need for more adaptive, ecosystem-based governance approaches. The chapter traces the transition from firm-centric supply chains to collaborative ecosystems, emphasizing evolving coordination principles. Drawing on the electric vehicle (EV) industry as a case study, we analyze how lifecycle phases affect governance mechanisms and actor alignment, particularly in early-stage development. We conclude by discussing strategies for navigating transitions within and across lifecycles, offering insights into how firms and policymakers can build resilience and adaptability in the face of rapid technological and institutional change.
