Abstract:
This chapter examines Japan's technological evolution, with a focus on smart agriculture and strawberry production in modern, data-driven greenhouses. It traces Japan's industrial transition from primary industries, such as agriculture, to secondary and then to knowledge-intensive tertiary and quaternary industries. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence, internet of things, and data science have revolutionized agriculture, where sensor-based and data-driven systems optimize environmental control, disease detection, and harvest forecasting. These innovations have enhanced productivity and sustainability, addressing climate change and labor shortages. Japan's technological progress is cyclical, with advancements in one sector feeding into others, creating a continuous loop of improvement. The chapter concludes that technological life cycles evolve dynamically, driving industries forward in a complex adaptive system, where interdisciplinary innovations propel economic growth and societal benefits.
