Introduction to Part I: climate

Arild Moe and Anna Korppoo

A chapter in Climate, Hydrocarbons, Sanctions, 2026, pp 8-10 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Official Russian reports document significant climate change in the Arctic. Temperature has been rising, sea ice cover is retreating, and permafrost is thawing. Whereas the general trend is clear, there are significant variations from year to year in the speed and even direction of change.
