Innovative technologies for improved poultry production: a system dynamics approach

Hassan Qudrat-Ullah () and Mohammad Shamsuddoha ()

Chapter 4 in System Dynamics for Sustainable Agriculture and Resilient Supply Chains, 2025, pp 64-92 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The poultry business is transforming due to innovative technologies that enhance productivity, efficiency, and animal care. The modern world requires substantial adoption costs, infrastructural upgrades, and training to benefit from technology fully. This study explores cutting-edge technologies in producing chickens and understanding and optimizing complicated interactions and results through system dynamics. The management of diseases, sustainable environmental practices, and efficient use of resources are only a few of the difficulties the poultry sector faces. This chapter aims to increase productivity and sustainability by incorporating cutting-edge technology, including automated feeding programs, accurate farming, and Internet of Things-based health monitoring. This chapter simulates and studies modern technologies’ effects on the poultry supply chain, simulating feedback loops and time-dependent changes in complex systems. The model can estimate the long-term consequences of technology breakthroughs on poultry health, environmental impact, and production efficiency through extensive modeling and simulation. The findings demonstrate potential new technology that could change chicken production, making them a valuable resource for industry stakeholders, legislators, and scholars interested in sustainable agriculture. This research emphasizes systems thinking to take advantage of poultry technological advances.
