How can Private International Law Contribute to a More Sustainable Life?

Abstract: The epilogue explores how private international law can support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It argues that private international law – and its potential role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, labour rights, and access to justice – has thus far been largely overlooked. The epilogue, therefore, calls for greater engagement of private international lawyers in global crises and sustainable development through, for example, stronger institutional collaboration, including within the Hague Conference on Private International Law. It also encourages scholarly organisations, such as the European Association of Private International Law (EAPIL), to proactively increase private international law's engagement with the SDGs and to help shape global legal instruments.
