Abstract:
Bangladesh has embraced the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, which emphasises quality education. Although the country has witnessed a rapid expansion of schooling, access to educational opportunities continues to differ according to multiple dimensions of inequality. We argue that understanding how inequality impacted children's education during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial for closing the education gaps during the post-pandemic recovery. Furthermore, schooling and learning are critical to understanding broader aspects of children's lives, including their wellbeing. This chapter examines how inequality factors such as gender, rural–urban location and digital poverty affected the educational wellbeing of children in Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysis of data from the Children's Worlds COVID-19 Special Survey indicates that children's educational wellbeing differed according to gender, ruralurban location, and socio-economic status (digital poverty).
