Abstract: Scholarly writers learn of significant journals as they are widely cited and referenced in the literature. Specific disciplines have wide-reaching journals as well as those focusing on a small area of research. There are official ranking websites, such as Journal Citation Indicator, Elsevier's Citescore, and the SCImago Journal Rankings, if one's university requires this information. From the many journals available, how does an aspiring author select one to submit to? This chapter overviews how to find the high-impact journals in one's field, and to balance one's objectives with realistic expectations for new writers. Finally, one must be certain that their paper follows the journal's author guidelines for formatting and ethical requirements. This chapter includes common reasons for initial rejections.
