Abstract: Xiaobo Qu is Chair Professor in the School of Vehicle and Mobility at Tsinghua University in China. In this chapter, Xiaobo responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Xiaobo reflects on working closely with industry partners to have real-world impact, his role as an Editor-in-Chief, and the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to transform research.
