Abstract:
Bert van Wee is Emeritus Professor in Transport Policy at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. In this chapter, Bert responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Bert reflects on having an associative mind and seeing connections between research topics, prioritising quality over quantity in research publications, and the importance of societal and policy relevance in transport research.
