Abstract: Professor Kelly J. Clifton is the J. Armand Bombardier Chair in Regional Transportation Planning in the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia in Canada. In this chapter, Kelly responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Kelly reflects on the interdisciplinary nature of the transport field, the need for theory development in transport research, and the value of good mentoring and support.
