Abstract:
Susan Handy is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California at Davis in the United States. In this chapter, Susan responds to a number of research-related questions, grouped under a total of 11 themes: (1) motivation; (2) research ideas and execution; (3) collaboration; (4) funding; (5) supervision; (6) publication; (7) reviewing and editing; (8) conferences and seminars; (9) communication and research impact; (10) time management; and (11) reflections and the future of transport research. Among other aspects, Susan reflects on her research collaborations with students, the importance of community research findings to non-academic audiences, and finding one's passion in research.
