Chapter 2 in Constructive Intercultural Management, 2026, pp 8-34 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, we show that intercultural management is embedded in internationalization, globalization and digitalization processes, which have profoundly changed over the past few decades. It is necessary to consider the underlying characteristics of the macro-, meso- and micro-contexts. The macro-context primarily refers to global investment flows, digitalization and the VUCA world as well as international migration and mobility. The meso-context mainly concerns the internationalization of companies, which can choose different market entry strategies, international orientations and organizational structures to develop in foreign countries. The micro-context refers to the cultural identities of individuals, and we can notice the increasing importance of intercultural individuals and boundary spanners, who play a key role in constructive intercultural management.
