Abstract:
In this chapter, we explain that culture is closely intertwined with communication and language. Language is a visible part of communication, and reflects cultural values, artefacts and practices. Organizations are facing multiple challenges when dealing with language issues, and they often use English as the lingua franca in cross-border communication. Constructive intercultural management considers language diversity as an asset that can enrich interactions between individuals and teams. Organizations can adopt several solutions to deal with multilingualism constructively: the introduction of a ‘(multi)lingua franca’, intercomprehension, simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, language training, and the use of intercultural and multilingual individuals.
