A chapter in Quality 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence, 2026, pp 1-5 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This monograph offers a modern approach to Quality 4.0 as the most important and relevant technique to develop, one which strikes directly at new process dynamics such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital twins and cyber-physical systems. The authors stress that, in this framework, quality is no longer simply confined to controlling functions—in Quality 4.0 it becomes a strategic integrator of people, technologies and processes that support the intelligent, adaptive and learning industry environment. A key contribution of the book is the Quality 4.0: Modern Perspective Model, which comprises six core dimensions: sustainability & ESG (environmental, social and governance), smart technologies and connectivity, autonomous quality systems, AI-based and -driven quality insight, digital maturity, and a customer-centric experience. This model is characterised by quality as the base of new, liable and integrated organisations. Throughout ten chapters, the authors investigate key quality transformation topics in the digital era such as adoption of data-driven quality systems, predictive and autonomous systems, intelligent metrics, wearable technologies and computer vision. Finally, the monograph presents case studies (e.g. Bosch Rexroth, BMW and Tesla) that demonstrate actual implementation of Quality 4.0 solutions in high-tech scenarios. The book will be of interest to academics, researchers and students as well as practitioners that are interested in contemporary and future quality models in the era of digital transformation.
