Abstract:
Stanley Kubrick's cult film A Clockwork Orange deals with key aspects of human life in society, including free will, the role of the State, and the status of science. The discipline of Economics, for all its faults, provides a formal framework for quantification that highlights public policy decision making. A Clockwork Orange has been surrounded by controversy, and continues to raise a critical question: What role should science play to improve and/or control the human condition? Economics is not the only discipline that participates in this debate.
