Abstract: This paper estimates the rates of return to college education in Mexico adjusting for self selection bias using maximum likelihood. Information is taken from the 1989 National Household Survey, where only individuals for whom information on parents is available are included in the sample. The results indicate the importance of the self selection bias for the sample used, giving rates of return significantly greater when the correction for this type of bias is applied.
