Abstract: There exists an ongoing debate about the economic impact induced by credit programs, mainly in developing countries. However, it has been less discussed the impact on welfare derived from the ownership of informal or formal credit. In this paper it is studied the impact of credit on the individual's welfare. We define welfare as the expenditure increase in goods related to education or health. We use the Mexican Family Live Survey (MxFLS), since it has data about individual's and household's consumption and credit patterns. We find that individuals with credit reduce their food expenditures and increase their consumption of durable goods, such as health, human capital and house appliances.
