Abstract:
In this paper, we analyze the electricity generation trend in Mexico. We consider explicitly the technological innovation as the key element in the growth rate of new capacity with lower costs. We find that this rate has not induced lower generation tariffs or lower emissions of noxious wastes, even though new technologies are less costly and less pollutant.
