Abstract: At present an integrated approach of waste management has been introduced in the European Union, which is quite flexible in terms of responding to changes and new problems arising in this field. The main directions of the environmental policy of the European Union on waste and trends in this area have been determined in the article. The integration of the priorities in the sphere of waste management to the environmental policy documents of the EU (7th Environment Action programme) and the documents that define the main priorities for funding (Regulation (EC) 1303/2013) have been presented. The analysis of legislative regulation of waste of EU (including the latest innovations) and the major benchmarks has shown the need for the modification of Ukrainian legislation with European guidelines and policy in this area. The ways of improving our country's environmental policies on waste on the base of European experience have been justified.
