Abstract:
The financial crises of 2008 and afterwards the European debt crisis made it clearer that the financial and macroeconomic conditions can change quickly. For that reason ensuring asset quality and profitability in response to the changing environment remains an important concern. This study considers the key problems in asset structure management and discusses several techniques outlined by managers and academicians to tackle these problems. The important problems of banks are the need to dynamically boost asset and liability structure, to make sure profitability of operations and to curtail risks. This can be done by jointly structuring asset and liability portfolios, using the gap technique for management of interest rate risk and increasing the range of profitable business operations. However these techniques should be coupled with efficient and sophisticated analysis of financial and economic indicators.
