Hypertriglycedemic Pancreatitis: Is It Time to Embrace Plasmapheresis?

Abstract: Acute pancreatitis is a medical condition that is caused by a number of aetiologies including gall stones, infections, alcohol excess and hypertriglycedemia. This condition has mortality ranging from 2% to as high as 30% particularly in patients with persistent organ failure. Management of acute pancreatitis usually involve treating the underlying insult while minimizing further damage and supporting the patient. Acute pancreatitis due to severe hypertriglycedemia is a medical emergency associated with serious complications hence timely diagnosis and interventions are paramount.
