Child Labour in Kerala's Coir Industry-Study of Few Selected Villages

Abstract: The objective of this study is to report on the extent and nature of involvement of children in the coir industry. For this purpose, it was decided to study only those operations of the industry in which children were found to be involded in significant numbers on tlie basis of actual observatior. Such operations werc found to be wheel spinning of coir and defibering of coconut husks. Two of the coastal taluks,namely Neyyattinkara and Chirayinkil known for coir producing activity in Triivandrum district were chosen for study. [WP No. 102].
