Abstract: Recognizing that the domestic violence is a serious social evil; that there is incidence of domestic violence within Bhutanese Society; that victims of domestic violence are the most vulnerable members of society; that women constitute the majority of the victim of domestic violence; The purpose of this Act to ensure a prompt and just legal remedy for the victims of domestic violence; facilitate access to remedies for immediate and effective assistance, shelter homes and protection to the victims of domestic violence and to introduce measures which seek to ensure that the relevant organs of the State give full effect to the provisions of this Act.
