Abstract:
The National Food Security Bill is all set to become an Act/ordinance and give legal entitlement to the citizens of the country to food. However the Bill does not define what food security is; but simply focuses on cereal consumption and entitlement while countries elsewhere worry about dietary diversity. A diversified diet ensures that the individual is consuming both macro and micro nutrients, and hence should be less prone to nutrient deficiency diseases. Hence, the Author thought it should begin by finding out what is the common man’s perception of food security. So the Author conducted a short survey interviewing people from different backgrounds a la “What did you eat yesterday?†of The New York Times .
