Policy Discussion Papers (Japanese) from Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI)

Abstract: This article examines issues in promoting the job placement of international students in the Kyushu region by conducting a survey of foreign international students' job-seeking awareness towards Kyushu (Japan) at six Kyushu universities and comparing that with the survey of Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) in Kyusyu region on recruitment and utilization of foreign human resources by the Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry. Through the analysis of the questionnaires, it is confirmed that there is a mismatch between international students and SMEs regarding country/area of origin, Japanese language proficiency, desired industries and types of occupation, work environment, desired period of work in Japan, and internships. Therefore, we have presented issues and recommendations not only for companies, but also for financial circles, universities, and local government bodies to allow them to work in partnership with each other and resolve these mismatches.
