Abstract:
Day after day, folks shift files between formats using converters at work or class. Still, safety checks on those uploads? Often missing completely. Hidden inside fakenormal PDFs, hackers tuck dangerous code, odd objects, or sneaky scripts. Because gaps stay open, threats slip through without notice [1], [2]. Fixing this issue led to creating ConvertShield, a tool that examines each file prior to converting it. Instead of rushing conversions, it pauses to verify safety through analysis powered by a Random Forest method [3], [4]. From PDFs, it pulls sixteen key signals like odd scripts, concealed triggers, strange symbols, scrambled bytes, or tuckedaway elements [5], [6], [7]. Depending on what shows up in those signs, the call gets made: harmless or risky. Starting off, ConvertShield handles various file changes think PDF to Word, turning Word into PDF, grabbing audio from PDFs, combining PDFs, even tossing JPGs into PDF format [1], [8]. Once conversion wraps up, extra safety steps kick in to keep outputs clean. When tested against the EvasivePDFMal2022 collection, results hovered near 90% correct identifications, all while moving quickly [5], [9], [10]. The whole setup runs on Flask, trusting nothing by default, which tightens protection each time a document shifts form.
