Screening Of Analgesic Effect of Lawsonia Inermis Leaves Extract in Mice

Abstract: Pain is a common clinical condition that significantly affects quality of life, necessitating the development of safer and more effective analgesic agents. The present study evaluated the analgesic activity of the methanolic leaf extract of Lawsonia inermis using the tail flick model in Swiss albino mice. Animals were divided into four groups (n = 6): control (normal saline), standard (tramadol 25 mg/kg, i.p.), and methanolic extract-treated groups receiving 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg orally for seven days. Analgesic activity was assessed by measuring tail flick latency at 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes using an analgesiometer. Both extract-treated groups showed a significant increase in reaction time compared with the control group, indicating analgesic activity. The 200 mg/kg dose exhibited greater analgesic efficacy than the 100 mg/kg dose, although tramadol produced the highest response. These findings suggest that Lawsonia inermis possesses promising dose-dependent analgesic potential and may serve as a natural source for the development of safer analgesic agents.
