Stephen J. O?Connor and S. Robert Hernandez

MECOSAN, 2020, vol. 2020/113, issue 113, 305-308

Abstract: The world-wide Coronavirus pandemic has placed extraordinary strains on health care and economic systems around the world. In this article, we will highlight some important ways by which we see the Coronavirus pandemic affecting the United States (U.S.) health care system. These include 1) placing the financial health of the health system at risk, 2) seeing huge demands for certain types of health care workers as others are furloughed, 3) witnessing the limitations of a lack of universal health care coverage, 4) increasing popularity of provider access via telemedicine/telehealth, 5) hospital innovations in response to the surge in patients, and 6) the lack of readiness for a pandemic. Keywords: Coronavirus experience, pandemic preparedness, organizational adaptation, United States.
