Abstract: This paper considers the evolution of the approach to the money and the banking system in socialist Czechoslovakia (from the stalinist conception to the illusions of market socialism in the 60th and the restictive monetary policy after the Soviet occupation till the end of 80th). There was an original notion of „the monetary criteria“ by economist František Vencovský applied by the central bank and the planning authority. But this monetary policy consisted in very good knowledge of western monetary theory.
