Abstract:
This working paper considers the status of care work (especially unpaid work) across the entire African con-tinent. To this end it briefly analyzes the conditions of supply of and demand for these services in different countries, after reviewing some of the demographic and economic characteristics, which necessarily determine these services. Finally, based on the use of available time-use survey data, an economic evaluation is pro-posed for this type of care, which is provided mostly free within the household and thereby largely deter-mines the development of men, but especially women, in Africa.
