Abstract:
The UNCSD Rio+20 meeting is expected to define the future paradigms of sustainable development. One of the main issues under discussion is the need for methodological and quantitative tools allowing for the continuous assessment and control of the progressive achievement of specific targets or, even better, of overall sustainability. This article presents an overview of the main obstacles toward achieving sustainable development, highlighting the limitations of the current measurement approaches.
