Social technologies for the transformation of solid waste management and management systems

Abstract: These books aim to transform waste management and management systems, providers of collection, treatment, and disposal services for waste produced by citizensand public and private organizations. In Brazil, as in the rest of the world, fields such as public policy, sanitation, urban planning, material engineering, and energyplanning, among others, have discussed the structure and effectiveness of these systems. These books focus on proposals for transforming these systems bystrengthening the professional category of waste pickers historically responsible for the recycling of various materials. The books also provide a history of the precarization and stigmatization of the work of these environmental agents, discuss this situation, and indicate ways to overcome it using social technologies, complying with the determinations of the National Policy for Solid Waste (Law no. 12,305/2010), and generating environmental, economic, political, and social gains.
