Self-stylization and resistance in the context of LGBTQ+

Marcus Vinicius Soares Siqueira and Bárbara Novaes Medeiros

RAE - Revista de Administração de Empresas, 2022, vol. 62, issue 4

Abstract: The aim of this theoretical essay is to reflect on the self-stylization process among LGBTQ+ bodies as resistance. This paper analyzes body standardization and resistance processes based on the self-stylization category, and draws its inspiration for such from two key post-modern authors: Nietzsche and Foucault. The discussions are directed at thinking about LGBTQ+ bodies from a non-identity perspective and queer resistance in terms of a wish for power and self-care from a critical logic, and not thinking about a radical process of social transformation, but of sporadic advances, especially at the individual and group/subculture level, which can play a significant role in redirecting social relations. Queer pleasure, therefore, reveals itself as ordering the resistance category in self-stylization by establishing micro-transformations in the workplace, as a way of tackling discipline and standardization.
