Abstract:
The Marginal Abatement Cost (MAC) of carbon is an important assessment toll to guide climate change and mitigation policies, and there is a considerable scope to its application in Brazil. The paper presents a MAC analysis based on an intersetorial model for steel and cement up to 2050. The main result has been the potential to cut industrial carbon emissions by half through an average cost of US$12/tCO2. Moreover, the research highlights energy prices, especially electricity, on the MAC components, and the possibility for a carbon cap and trade scheme among sectors.
